Utilizing Reasonably Priced Security Systems In Stores
When I first began working as a store manager for a neighborhood convenience store, one of my initial tasks was to secure the premises. It is a well-known reality that convenience stores are often a target for petty theft.
The last manager did not manage the store finances well and, as a result, a conventional CCTV security system was out of our budget. As an alternative, we made a decision to build a system out of cheap hidden cameras.
Home and business owners utilize surveillance cameras to monitor activity inside a particular area. Many are disguised as typical household items and, if placed properly, will blend in with their surroundings.
To start, I positioned a cordless phone hidden camera at the rear of the front counter, facing the cashier as well as cash register. This provides me a full view of the cashier area and is near enough to make out the faces of customers.
Next, I put an exit sign hidden camera over the entrance to the storage room. The entrance to the storage room is in the far corner of the store along the rear. From this point, I have a general, aerial view of the store.
I then placed inconspicuous sprinkler hidden cameras on the ceiling directly above the aisles inside our store, along with the real fire sprinklers. Given that they are downward-facing cameras, I could get a clear look at each aisle on-site, from beginning to end.
Finally, I placed a utility box hidden camera in the corner of our stockroom to keep an eye on our staff, just in case. Considering that this room shares a space with our accountants’ office and a break room, I also mounted a wall clock hidden camera.
By utilizing these cheap hidden cameras, we were able to have the functionality of a full security system at almost half the cost. We are still utilizing them today and, best of all, nobody who comes to the store is aware that they are being watched.
